First day of spring

spring

YEAH its spring.  at least according to the calendar.  It has been a long winter for most of the US and I for one am soooo ready for spring.

I actually took this picture the first weekend of March but thought it was better served on this day.

it really is spring

Seems my backyard is one of the last places that shows signs of spring. my tulips are finally starting to open up. yeah. funny thing on the tulips. the back yard retaining wall is split by a staircase. I planted a mix bag of tulips several years ago and when they came up one side of the wall has a variety of color the other side is ALL this purple color. how does that happen? I wonder if the soil is different on one side or could I have had some really strange luck and pick all the purple bulbs and put them on one side. no telling I guess.

yucca in the yard

well the alphabet blog hop is almost over the time has gone really fast. And been inspiring. hope you have enjoyed it.
The yucca is a transplant. Last weekend my neighbor got rid of many of her yucca's I had my dad come take about a half dozen for his front yard a section that doesn't grow anything and they are thriving so far. My trouble spots are on my rock wall having trouble with getting to many plants to survive there so trying out a few. one side they are doing ok but the other side not so good. this one just may make it though lets hope. My goal is for a yard with little to no care but still look good.

May in Spokane is the lilac month our city flower and the namesake for our festival and parades. mine are starting to bloom YEAH. I have young ones they still need a few years to grow up but I can wait. it was windy today so this was the best shot of the bunch. happy with the background at least

115/365 april 25

It was the inland empires plant sale day today and here is my haul. All but one of these will go on my rock wall. The wall is coming along great. each year I buy a few more plants for it and its starting to really fill in. I did notice that almost none of my daffodils came up which sit on the inside edge of wall that goes into the yard area. And the tulips are not doing well they have yet to blossom. I think I will have to get more to plant this fall. now how to keep the squirrels out of them. hmmm

trying to do this one handed was tricky but I wanted to show you size. I bought this last year and it was just a wee twig. Its special because it is a Spokane Lilac specially made for our city by the Spokane Lilac City. You see that is our city flower which usually blooms in May which for our city is full of big celebrations and happenings. But this year judging from the other lilacs they we are going to be well into may before they pop. Some day this little plant will produce flowers but it will be many many years until then I must be patient. The flower will turn white then pale purple and then dark purple if it does what it is suppose to do

At least something is turning green and growing in the yard. this is my giant allum. I love those things. the first year I had them my neighbor came over and asked what the heck they were going to be and when they came up she came back to exam them.

95/365 April 5

spent a little time in the flower beds today. Got the front one under the window done. Above is before and below is after

Darn maple trees everyone of them in Spokane is trying to reproduce in my yard.

No face picture since my sinus flared up I look horrid. but look at those dirty hands even in gloves they got filthy. nothing like a little dirt under the fingernails to show you spring has arrived.
