chilly afternoon

last weekend was went for a walk out near the palouse highway.  the light amount of snow that had fallen and the fields and farmlands were very pretty.

personally I couldn't imagine living out here especially in the winter but it has some great charm.

the birds were flocking to this tree where the apples had frozen but were still a good food source.  Saw several pheasant and hawks but didn't get any pictures of them.  one because I just had my point and shoot and two it was never ready in time.

we did run into several dear though.  I never tire of of them.  though I suppose if they were eating my gardens and trees maybe I wouldn't feel the same.

dusting

lewiston balloon ride 2011 august_2856a

not your typical dusting is it?  nope this is a crop duster spraying a wheat field in Washington.  we were driving home from our balloon trip when we spotted him.  not a bad shot from a moving car.

and for a little perspective:

i love to watch the fields flow softly in the wind it really is a cool sight to see.

wheels in the wheatfield

lewiston balloon ride 2011 august_2835

This is located at the artisans at dahman barn in uniontown, washington.   we have passed it a few times but never stopped.  this summer we decided we would and oh wow so glad we did.  it sits on the edge of a farm in a super small town (like 30+ people I think) there are at least 100 different artists that share their work inside the barn and about 20 that have studios where you can watch them work as well.  i came away with my christmas ornament for this year, a mouse of course.

this is the outside of the barn where there is a fence made of hundreds of wheels welded together.  i loved how this looked out into the wheat fields and how the clouds were formed that day.  sometimes a picture just makes itself.

i love this shot   I don't say that much about my own work only because I super critical of my work always thinking I could have done this or that better I guess that is good because i am learning.  I was looking at my tag cloud (scary) and started cleaning it up and noticed some very old posts and thought good grief that is horrible I should delete it.  but it is a reminder of my improvement so they stay.

this is a picture of the barn with the fence around it. so you can see how many wheels are there.

canola obsessed

lewiston july 2011_1743

yes it really is canola.  remember the post from june 27th?  I wasn't sure what it was but it has been confirmed it is canola.  and guess what here it is again!!!!  yes I think this qualifies as beeing obsessed and not just a dork as some would say.

what is canola you ask??  well according to wikipedia it is:
Canola refers to a cultivar of either Rapeseed or Field Mustard  Their seeds are used to produce edible oil that is fit for human consumption because it has lower levels of erucic acid than traditional rapeseed oils and to produce livestock feed because it has reduced levels of the toxic glucosinolates

driving to Lewiston we passed a lot of this.  this was shot from the moving car.  we were on a mission to get to lewiston to get a good nights sleep.  the next day we were suppose to go ballooning but...... the air currents were not right or somethign like that so it was cancelled.  we made the best of our anniversary day and found other things to do like relax and see tomorrow's post for what else we did.

yellow

milton-freewater

on a trip to the walla walla balloon festival to see the hot air balloons we came across this field of yellow in milton-freewater  not sure what it is eactly might be mustard might be something else.  anyway it looked really cool before the rain set in.

we never did see any balloons to much weather issues that weekend.  still had fun though   always make the best of what you are given is what I say.

forgotten outlook

i took a picture the other day with my point and shoot of my son. I have to grab those whenever I can since I don't see him much. hmmm grownup

anyhow ever forget you have some pictures on a camera and when I downloaded up popped a couple shots from our trip to Boise.  well we went through pendleton and on way home we stopped at an outlook and you can see to Russia.  well maybe not Russia but a really long ways.

couldn't decide which picture I liked better the top one with the feeling of the wide openness or the bottom one with the menacing looking clouds in the shot.  which do you like best.  i did crop a little off the top picture because I didn't like a small section in the forground

New Park and its awesome

sorry combo of point and shoot, fires in the area creating a haze and the sun was going down.

Hubby and walked to the new Dwight Merkel Sports Complex  which I will always refer to as Joe Albi stadium because growing up here that is what we called it.

the park is really cool a great place for familes.  I will have to take the big girl camera down and shoot some real shots soon.

They have baseball diamonds, soccer fields, football fields, a huge skate park, the above is a bmx track (Way cool) splash pads, basketball court and it is even pet friendly.

the bmx track has an electronic gate so they can hold races here too.  fun fun
