memory for fathers day

while working in the yard recently I walked over a concrete patio part for the millionth time.  But this time I stopped and brushed off the rock and decided to pull out the hose and hose off the area.  This is what was there:\\

memory

backing up a bit I should say I live in the house my grandparents lived in since the early 60's.  when my grandma died in 2003 we acquired the house as I couldn't bare for it to go to someone else we didn't know and we moved in shortly after.

so for this fathers day I remember my grandpa marvin (my dad's dad) who passed away from complications of lung cancer in 83.  He saw me graduate high school but missed so much more.  I wish my husband and son could have met him he was a special man with so many stories that he made up.  I have many of them that I kept maybe some day I should turn them into an e-book.  he had a gift that is for sure.  he could always make you laugh.

So this concrete slab done by him with all the grand kids names on it.  myself and my two brothers in 1975.  it worn and broken but I can't bare to get rid of it.

Adding this to sweet Sunday.

signs

DSC_0020_4238bw3

what do you do when the sky is gray and you so want a picture of that sign?  well convert it to black and white and up the red    gee that has never done before right?? lol no not an original type shot very cliche.  but then that was the theme for our weekend.  very touristy and very cliche right down to stopping at several starbucks during our visit.

time to head back up the beach on the second half of our hike.  our short stay at the lighthouse included our packed in lunch   definitely worth the trip

this sign points us on our way out of the lighthouse area.

smile - a childhood memory

As a child I went to this dentist office not far from where I live now.  Its still a dentist office though they have remodled it and I don't think you can see this sign anymore from inside.  the best i can recall it is well over 30 years old.

It use to comfort me to look outside and look up in the tree and see this sign.  No clue if it ever was part of the actual show but doesn't really matter.  shouldn't we always try to find a smile in life???

stop

don't pick the cherry blossoms

I was in DC at the very end of the cherry blossom festival and these little signs were all over the place.  tooo cute.  Unfortunately the blossoms were not very good while I was there.  lots of wind and rain had thrashed them pretty good.

check out sunday's best:

hmmmm

wow flash back and flash forward

and

we need more of these signs

saw these signs in the smithsonian American History museum and thought how ironic given the economic situation the US seems to be in.

A

well my intentions for my blog hop were to find a letter and post it and then also post something that starts with that letter. but since I can't get into my old computer yet (long story short it is dying and I am working on a new laptop) I only have the letter. no worries I have all my pictures backed up onto a portable hard drive its just not accessible to me at the moment.
So I have "A" street a street I pass most days so it popped out at me as a must have for the hop.
Follow along with my friends for the blog hop (see side bar)

blue

My nephew and one of the brothers (not his dad)sitting under a sign that amused me.

Time to leave the cayman islands. Sigh. It is such a beautiful place. the water is so clear and a beautiful blue color. I would go back in a heart beat.

Do your part and VOTE even for the small election like the local judges. Today I put up a couple signs for a former coworker. This one is in my front yard. The poor rhododendron behind it is a victim of our harsh winter and I will have to get another white one to either replace it or fill in some of the blank area. She is now a city judge and running for reelection in August. Not an easy task for anyone but for judges even harder because the average person doesn't know much about a judge and what they do and what they stand for.

103/365 april 13

Went out after work and met up with a few friends. Most had yummy margaritas but I opted out since I wasn't feeling great and afterwards we needed to go rubber stamping and my stampin up demo's house.

Did have some good nachos but probably could have made a meal out of the chips before hand.

Its good to see friends and laugh and talk.

86/365 march 27

The reason for me being absent for a few days was a trip to Vegas for hubby and I. It was a nice distraction from reality. I have been there a few times but could never find this sign. Finally went a few blocks past Mandalay Bay and there it was.

watching the sun go down from our hotel room and kicking off the shoes for a few minutes. we must have walked 20 miles today.
