 1) this is a must see  - not only for the memorial but the view from here
2) this is not my favoirte shot just the best that I took sadly.  lots of people, yucky blah weather and well I just lacked the imigination to get a good shot I think.  Need to work on that.

tomb of the unknown soldier

One most see things to do at at Arlington is the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier.  I didn't have the best seat in the house for picture taking so sorry about that but you get the idea.  everything about the ceremony is very military very exaggerated and very serious   Being a former military member myself I can appreciate this but for anyone that isn't part of that I think it is important to know that this is one of the highest honors someone can receive and least we not for forget all our unknown soldiers in this world.  they were someones child, someones loved one and all of our fighters for freedom in this world   regardless of what your beliefs and their own beliefs on war and conflicts a soldier of all armed forces fight to keep us free.

an image I took a couple of years ago at the Holy Cross cemetery in Spokane.

diamond dust and pogonip

it was a cold new years weekend so venturing from the house to far was not in the cards.  we made it down to the cemetery that overlooks the Spokane river and I tromped through the snow for a few shots this week. 



this first shot is a picture of what my husband has always called pogonip but in reality it is really called diamond dust.  It has some lens flare but after several attempts to not get it in the shot I gave up it was afer all only 3 degrees out. This after a long discussion and searching the Internet for answer.  pogonip is really ice fog and luckily we didnt' get that cold here.  check out the wikapedia links I posted for each.  but a really cool video of pogonip on YouTube is HERE.   I wish I would have thought to video it. duh.

this is a closeup of picture I took where you can see the twinkling a little too. 




by the way if you ever want some quite time with usually some beautiful scenery check out your local cemetaries they offer some beaufiul shots.  Great place to walk or bike ride with the family too.  I know it sounds creepy to some but try it out you might find you enjoy it.

Remember Pearl Harbor - December 7 1941

In remembrance of the day that pearl harbor was attacked a couple of shots from the Ft George Wright military cemetery on the centennial trail along the Spokane river

I always find cemeteries as a good place for walking.  A good place for families to go as well.  Some think it is creepy but most cemeteries have beautiful grounds and looking at all the tombstones and markers makes one realize we are all here for only a short time and to make the best of what we have.
