signs of the end of summer

this flower was along the trail of Kamiak and I know its dead/dying but something about the color made me really like it.

yeah another dying plant I see a theme here but I pass this and though how funny and fuzzy.

a closer look you can see how furry it looks

but a zoomed in look you can really appreciate the beauty.

this was all over the trees.

and lastly my last shot of kamiak

Steptoe Butte

Yesterday I told you about the hike up kamiak butte well this is the other side of the mountains view.
It is a view of steptoe Butte from Kamie Butte.

I have tried several different times to get a good clear picture of steptoe but everything we go it ends up being a hazy day.  I am beginning to think there are no clear days.

zoomed in a bit for you and here it is.  You can also drive up to Steptoe but there is no hiking its strictly a drive up to a parking lot.  the view is great especially in the summer when the fields are green.

I loved this shot of the harvested field.  so many times you see the picture of the pretty green fields but this is the bread and butter for the farmers here and the makings of some good bread for us at home.

Hike to kamiak

went for a drive about an hour and half from home to the palouse to kamik butte.  After climbing up around 3600 feet we reached the top

From both sides of the butte you can see the farm fields.  this time of year they are in the process of being harvested.  In the Spring they are fields of green.

Duncan (aka couch potato dog) went with us.  Its only about a 3 1/2 hour hike but he had to be carried part of the way
