reflective light

montana july 2011_1824

you know how you hear all about the light around you helps you with your photography??

well this self portrait (groan) is my attempt to show you how I came relize this.  in a bathroom of a hotel room the square mirror had the light go all the way around it.  (sorry forgot to take that picture duh.  look how it is picked up in my eyes.
it freaked us out at first was really hard to actually look into the mirror and see that.  even harder to actually capture it without the camera getting in the way.

so when you are taking picture in a room with artifical light or even light reflected off a surface take a quick look in your display to see how it will impact the photo.  wouldn't it be horrible to shoot a picture of someone and have everything be right only to relize they how have squares in their eyes from a light in the room or maybe you are shooting for a horror movie in that case it just might be ok.

  2. I think the "L" shaped reflections in your eyes is interesting. You are so right about keeping this in mind. I don't photograph people so much and sometimes, glasses-wearers end up with big squares reflecting in their glasses. Ugh.
