Christmas came early for me this year. I have the best hubby in the world I think. I have been going back and forth with the thought of getting a new camera. I have spent the last year thinking about it. Going back and forth with what I wanted. It came down to the Nikon d90 and the d5000. well I decided that for a bit more the d90 has a better sensor and I needed that one. then it came down to do I really want to spend that kind of money on myself.

well hubby decided for me and said its your Christmas present and lets go get one. so this afternoon we headed out and found out that well not many places have the D90 in stock but we did get finally at best buy. thanks Jeff you were very helpful and reconfirmed that it was the right choice.

so the above picture is just one I took while reading thought he manual and trying to figure out all the buttons I am only 40 pages into this manual and have probably forgotten most of it. lol i do believe I am going to LOVE this camera I can already see a difference in the quality

I did find a section (jumping ahead hehe) on retouching your photos while in the camera and shot the first photo and then retouched it.

Black and white
Sepia
Cyanotype - blue and white. I had never heard of this before. COOL

I have lots to learn but very excited

was driving home from work when I saw this cool fog setting over the valley below our house. I only had the little point and shoot and spent 15 minutes driving up and down the streets to get a good shot. I couldn't get one without dang power lines either. darn them. And frankly spending an hour in photo shop removing them was not in the cards for me. the bright lights inside the fog are the football stadium lights.

last of the night shots finally re-sized and put onto my blog. I love the way this turned out. its below a bridge with the moon shinning through but it really highlights the arches in the bridge.

more experimenting with night photography. above and below I played with the Kalvin settings. it was amazing how much difference in the colors it shows.

just a couple other shots. below was taken through a whole in the bridge to frame the shot

Night photography experimenting. Went with a few people and did a little bit of night photography tonight. All photos were taken around 7 ish at night so dark. Above is the county courthouse.
this was cropped down a bit but it intrigued me.

above is my favorite of the shots. shows part of our downtown area at night.

home with a headache today but took my daily picture of the waterlogged leaves. it has been raining all night and all day.

worked on calendar pages for our annual swap. This years theme was botanical and I did these punch in lilacs. the leaves are colored in H2O's and the flowers are done with a bazillion punches glued in place. We had a girlfriend get together with 2 other friends that had birthdays. One of which was the big 40 and I took a picture to torture her with uploading it to facebook. but I didn't wasn't that nice of me?? well maybe have to use it later for blackmail.
the calendar is going to be a desk calendar so these are only 4 x 4 fun size to work with

297/365 preparing for halloween

Pumpkin carving and all that jazz. Dave drawing his design

Kris cutting into his pumpkin with the dog waiting by for scraps. He LOVES pumpkin

Dog torture time. trying on old masks. this looked really freaky on him like some sort of dog freak mix.

tada. all done. with pumpkins
the mini pumpkin spider that Dave did turned out pretty cool

while pumpkin seeds were cooking Dave and I made cupcakes. using carrot cake we made the mini cupcakes (bite size we love that size) added orange frosting, sprinkles, confetti leaves, some orange gel for lines and licorice for the tops.
should have used the real camera but instead i used the crummy Fuji one oh well you get the point.

This was my favorite quilt (couldn't get the whole thing in the picture without someone standing in the way grrr) I just loved the black and white with a touch of color. the barn doors open, and there is a tiny pair of shorts hanging on the drying line.

This was my second favorite. Lots of detail
and of course my favorite subject animals.

I would love to make something like this some day. I have a friend that I really think would love it.
this is even more stunning in person it is huge and so rich in color. the show is not the best place to photograph due to many people and I think if I would have had a step stool it really would have helped. lol

I loved this interpretation of life behind glass put onto fabric. great capture.

this was just so so gorgeous

Crab under the crab tree. My nieces mom wanted this shot. lol
Me I love the shots of her being silly.

So the day after I get back from Texas, jet lagged and tired we go out and shoot my niece's graduation photos. I really am not happy with them. I was tired so not on my game, the light was terrible, it was cold as all get out and the colors really weren't that great (they were better a week later) but it was the only time in our two schedules that worked. so the following are some of her favorite shots. which one do you like best??

Check out the ice drops on the tree behind her. YES it really was cold out.
